Dr Laura Foster

Dr. Foster is a licensed clinical psychologist specializing in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and the treatment of OCD, anxiety, and trauma. Dr. Foster offers compassionate evidence-based therapy for adults and adolescents. Her approach to treatment with CBT focuses on changing unhelpful patterns of thinking and behavior that can keep people stuck. Therapy often includes exposure-based approaches, mindfulness strategies, and self-compassion. Dr. Foster works toward your goals by helping you learn to get out of your mind, do more of what you love, and take some risks to try new things.

Dr. Foster offers therapy for:

  • Anxiety (including worry, social anxiety, panic, and health anxiety)
  • OCD
  • Trauma and PTSD
  • Depression
  • Problems related to grief and loss
  • Tourette Syndrome/tic disorders
  • Body-focused repetitive behaviors (such as hair-pulling or skin-picking)

Dr. Foster specializes in the treatment of OCD with Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP). She offers Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) for PTSD and is a certified provider of Comprehensive Behavioral Intervention for Tics (CBIT).

Dr. Foster received her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the University of Maine in the developmental-clinical track. She completed her predoctoral internship at WellSpan Philhaven CBT in Pennsylvania and returned to Maine for her postdoctoral residency at Health Psych Maine. Dr. Foster has co-authored a book, book chapters, and peer-reviewed articles about social anxiety, depression, interpersonal rejection, and social skills. She has presented her research on relationships and social anxiety at national conferences. Dr. Foster is happy to call Maine home and to work closely with our community at Health Psych Maine. In her free time, she enjoys exploring the woods and coast, kayaking, and gardening.
