Dr. Matranga was named Teacher of the Year by the graduating Family Practice Residents from the Maine-Dartmouth Family Medicine Residency program, where he does some precepting.  Working with the residents and faculty is an honor and a pleasure.  

Dr. Matranga specializes in the treatment of anxiety disorders including worry/Generalized Anxiety Disorder(GAD), Panic Disorder, Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Acute Stress Disorder, Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD), and Social Anxiety Disorder (also known as Social Phobia). Treatment modalities generally include cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) and mindfulness strategies.

Dr. Matranga also has 20 years of experience in the treatment of mind-body problems (behavioral medicine, health psychology) such as coping with and adjusting to chronic and catastrophic illness and making lifestyle changes to increase wellness.

With his background in CBT and in psychopharmacology, Dr. Matranga provides consultation, teaching, and lectures on evidence-based choices between the use of medications, therapy, or a combined approach for treating various problems.

Dr. Matranga completed a Postdoctoral Fellowship in Behavioral Medicine at the University of Utah Medical Center. He is board-certified in Clinical Health Psychology by the American Board of Professional Psychology (ABPP) and is a Fellow in the American Academy of Health Psychology.

In 2004, Dr. Matranga completed a postdoctoral Master of Science in Clinical Psychopharmacology and passed the national Psychopharmacology Examination for Psychologists (PEP).

Dr. Matranga is President of the Maine Psychological Association (2012-2013).

He is an adjunct faculty member at the University of Maine at Orono and at the Massachusetts School of Professional Psychology. He served two years on the psychology licensing board in Maine. He was editor of The Tablet, a newsletter reaching 800-1,000 psychologists in Division 55 of the American Psychological Association (APA). He has actively participated in other volunteer positions and has spoken for three consecutive years at the national meeting of APA.

He has enjoyed running since 1973 and now balances that with yoga; he enjoys taking classes from his favorite instructors – his wife, Jeri Wilson, and her yoga partner, Susan Golden at School Street Yoga.
